PIRATES
Saw Pirates last night at the El Capitan, hells yes. :D It's so worth paying quadruple the price for the tickets there, because the seats were really good, we got free snacks, and all the cosplayers and decorations and the organ player were just awesome. :D Wish I could've won one of the prizes, though. I really could've used that Nintendo DS Lite. And the theater wasn't far from my school, so I totally found the freeway again with little hassle. Go me!

And now, my SPOILERY THOUGHTS.

- As far as third movies in a (maybe?) trilogy go, I liked this one better than Shrek 3 or Spiderman 3. Maybe it was because the audience I was seeing it with was more responsive and enthused, but I just had more fun watching it and it was less predictable than those others. Honestly, most of what happened, I didn't see coming (except for Tia Dalma being Davy Jones's woman, durr).
- On that note...Tia Dalma is a random sea goddess? WTF? I kinda wished they'd set up the whole Calypso thing a movie or two earlier, 'cause it just felt kinda out of the blue and then she gets REALLY REALLY BIG and turns into crabs and then a whirlpool. D: That's it? O-okay?... Although I guess that does help explain how she knew Will's name and could bring Barbosa back from the dead and all that.
- The whole Davy Jones's locker bit was kind of trippy and awesome. SHIRTLESS JACK YEY. Even though often I really could not follow just what was supposed to be going on in Jack's brain. THEY JUST WANTED TO PUT IN ENOUGH JACKS FOR ALL THE FANGIRLS, ADMIT IT.
- I want a rock crab. IT WAS A ROCK LOBSTERRRRRR
- Governor Swann, no! D: (Is it bad that "I think I'm dead" kinda made me chuckle?) Although that scene was kinda awesome, too. As was the rocking-the-ship scene.
- Aww, poor Kraken. D:
- I-I don't know what to think about Elizabeth, now. I mean, Liz is an awesome character and all. But I guess here she was almost...too awesome?! I mean, she's frickin' kicking ass left and right as good as Will and Jack are, and then is all I SHALL LEAD THE PIRATES AS THE NEW PIRATE KING (poor Chao!) and then is just kind of King of the Pirates now? I dunno, I guess I just liked how Liz was able to be so awesome in the first movie without being this savvy swordfighter, just by stabbing pirate captains with butter knives or threatening to toss medallions overboard. Dammit movie, she doesn't need to be made Pirate King in order to get what she wants!
- That said, I'm really glad they didn't decide to call her the Pirate Queen.
- Could we please have a flow chart for who is betraying who and to whom and why and when? Because damned if I could follow any of that most of the time.
- Speaking of that, WILL, WHAT. WHAT. Will, I did not understand your motivations most of the time! I mean, I know he wanted to free his father and etc., but WILL YOU DUMBASS.
- Yeah, he was dumb sometimes, but them getting married on the ship under Captain Barbosa while fighting off the soldiers and the Dutchmen kind of won the whole thing. That was terrific.
- OMG JAMES NOOOOOOO :((( Just when you getting over your whole stint and ready to go back to Scruffington, they killed you! I weep! (But hey, at least he was totally honorable about it.)
- Fight at the end of the movie was awesome, natch.
- WILL, WHAT. WHAT. (part 2). I know that whole thing was to have Jack redeem himself by saving Will and giving up his chance at immortality, but...Will! :( Way to kinda screw over Liz just so Bootstrap can be free, even though it would be obvious he wouldn't leave his son anyway?!
- So, by the end of the movie, we have our peoples as:
Tia Dalma = CRABS
Beckett = SPLINTER PINCUSION
Norrington = STABBITY
Governor Swann = DED
Davy Jones = DISNEY!FALLING!VILLAIN!DED
Barbosa = WINNAR
Pintel and Ragetti = STILL AWESOME
Gibbs = CHICKS
Bootstrap = NO MORE STARFISH OTP
Will = DAVY JONES 2.0
Liz = PIRATE KING
Jack = DINGHY CAPTAIN + MPD?

- And really, there was lots of serious stuff in it, but the seriousness actually made all of the funny parts even funnier. It wasn't like Shrek 3, which was mostly lots of disconnected funny with some angst, or Spiderman 3, which was lots of disconnected angst with some funny. It had the right amount of funny and action. For that, I applaud it! Go see it!
- Oh, and BTW: two of the stars showed up at the theater, one of which was Marty. :D And I was in the front row, two feet away from him. :D So awesome. :DDDD

"- On that note...Tia Dalma is a random sea goddess? WTF? I kinda wished they'd set up the whole Calypso thing a movie or two earlier,"

Actually now that I think about it they "hinted" to it back in DMC cuz Pintel and Ragetti were all confused about the story saying it was the sea or some giant monster thing and she said "Same story, different version and all are true."

But yeah it only makes sense that way after watching PC:AWE!

But omg my brain just about did orgasmic things last night! I really enjoyed the movie too!

Yeah, I kinda wanna go back and rewatch DMC, just to see if I can catch those references this time. It's probably gonna be really weird to see how the characters change between the movies!

Haven't seen it yet, but I loev spoilers.

Yeah... I kinda expected this from the reviews. That they tried to cram too much stuff in there and all that. I'll still watch it of course, but I'm not very excited about it. ^^;

Gah! I didn't want to spoil you! D: But yeah, definitely go see it anyway. There's tons of hilarious moments in it, even if the plot's kinda all over the place.

So Tia really is Davy's woman. I kinda guessed that when I saw DMC becaus when Jack was stealing her stuff, she had the same locket that Davy Jones had. Well, I'm going to go see it in the morning. I would rather save two dollars on matinee prices. Oh, btw, I finally beat FFXII, and it only took me 113 hours! Now I kinda don't know what to do with myself.

I was definitely concerned about Will as far back as April when I read the list of upcoming characters in Zizzle's action figure line for the movie (one of them was listed as "Will Turner (Flying Dutchman Captain)"), but I kinda like how they ended up handling it in the movie. Yes, he's separated from Elizabeth, but at least only for ten years at a time. And now he can do the job that Jones should have been doing instead of being all "Oh poor me, I'm heartbroken, angst angst angst...", which apparently means that Will won't end up all tentacle-y (that was something that especially worried me).

Of course, now Elizabeth is stuck with looking after his heart. Romantic, I'm sure, but where's she going to put that chest? Although I suppose it would make a great conversation piece...

Are you serious? They listed who he was in the action figure line before the movie came out? Well, booo on them for spoiling it like that, I say!

And while at least they do get to see each other again, I'm not exactly happy with that whole once-every-ten-years-thing, either. D: I mean, it's pretty obvious from the other two movies that Liz is anything but patient. I don't even imagine how she would put up with having to wait that long just to see him for one friggin' day!

As it turns out, it seems that there's some extra info that didn't make it into the movie (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_lounge/518845.html?#cutid1) for God knows whatever reason -- take it however you like. :/

sdadaslkdjkla!! That kind of info is important...why the heck would they leave that out?!

Oh look, I'm adding another comment. Anyway, I just got back from the movies, and it was freakin' awesome! Especially with Will being the new Captain and all. I think he's been so under rated and shunted from the story in the second movie. Music was the bomb, and so was the final fight. Though, I really wish Tia Dalma's whole Goddess thing hadn't been added. It was kinda stupid. They could have done the story just as well without that. And poor Jack, his ship is gone again, and he gets bitch slapped - again! Hey, a question. Do you know what happened to Ana Maria in the last movie? She just kind of disappeared. Maybe the cannibals ate her. Sorry for all this rambling, but I loved that movie!

(In response to the other comment) You finished FFXII? XD Aww, man! I technically can go and finish it now (I only have the endgame left) but I'm such a completionist, I want to do the ten thousand different sidequests first, plus I want the Order of Ambrosia rank from the Clan. XD;

Yeah, I totally need to get my hands on the soundtrack. And I don't even think Ana Maria was in the second movie! I think she just didn't sign up for anything more than the first one, which is a huge shame. D: I know a lot of her fans were disappointed, and she was a cool character!

Well, technically, I still need to beat five more Espers, three more hunts, and about ten sidequests, but I've beat the actual story - you get my point. And I love the ending, but I'm not going to spoil it for you. Oh, we can just say that Ana Maria finally got her boat from Jack and sailed away happily. Hey, can you rec any good postAWE fanfiction? I'm just finding crap right now, and I want to read some good stuff.

I'd like to think Ana Maria got her own boat and sailed off on many a grand adventure. XD

And I don't really read any Pirates fanfic, but I can ask my roomie [livejournal.com profile] corrielle later if she finds anything good, since she's looots more into the Pirates fandom than I am and can probably find good stuff. :O

Thanks! You know, I've been thinking. To get around the whole once every ten year thing for Will and Elizabeth, well, can't Will go on other ships like Davy Jones did? So can't Elizabeth just sail up to him and he can visit her? Also, why can't he come on land in his little bucket of water like Jones did? I don't know, there are just so many ways they can get around it without even trying.

Yuppers I too agree with what you said. I saw the 8:00 show on Thursday and was texting people left and right saying "STAY TILL AFTER THE CREDITS" but no one listened to me. Still as kick ass a movie as it was (BARBOSA IS THE MAN!) the ending made me feel kinda sad. Eternal living husband who you get to see for only approximately 6 more times until you die...LAME! I know a lot of people were rooting for jack and liz but i was all for whiney will and his princess living together happily ever after
