The Bronx is leaking!
I got another sudden egg drop into my lap, and it hatched right then and there. SO, suddenly have more freelance work, but this time it needs to be done at the studio so I'll be commuting in every day. Don't expect to see me around much next week. At least it looks to be an interesting (if very speedy) project for an actually-rather-large property. So, yay more work! November is going to be a friggin' busy month...

Tried another BBS-cast-style-change; dunno if I like it. May come back to it later. In the meanwhile, another MST3K monster for the collection...

Ah, the golden age of making stuff up
It's Sunshine's birthday today! She's twelve years old...very old-lady age for a dog. But despite her having bad arthritis and that rattlesnake bite, she's still doin' her doggy thing and giving out plenty of love.

Aaaand also...goin' to Rifftrax Live tonight with friends, which is always a hoot. XD Last movie was totally lolarious.

And then the BBS cast in yet another style...

Three things in black and white
There's a new Lunargyros page up today; read it here.

So, they're removing the huge tree that stood in the middle of our collective condo driveway. It's really weird not having that giant tree there anymore, like there's too much space. :( I'm sad to see any tree get cut down, especially one I'm familiar with, although realistically it really did need to be moved...it was kind of bad planning to put a tree in the middle of a driveway in the first place, and it's grown so much that the roots are starting to push up the concrete and break wires and pipes. Poor tree, you should've had a better home from the start.

Got some things artwise...first, another attempt at the BBS cast in a different art style!

He's an odd duck
Spent some time with dudes at the Fandom House last night, which was nice. :D I really should visit more often.

Time for some fanarts...that are not KH for once! (HOLY CRAP, SHOCK OF SHOCKS.) I've been wanting to do a huge group pic of a ton of my favorite movie monsters of MST3K. I figured doing this would now also be a good opportunity to practice using Painter some more. So, will do all the monsters individually, and put them in a group pic later.

Day 26 - Favorite Princess of Heart

Kinda hard not to say Kairi, since she's in the game the most out of the princesses, and her connection to Sora and Riku and all that. XD And she's got spunk and drive!
But if we're not counting Kairi and just looking at the Disney princesses, I'm gonna say Cinderella. Her world was hilarious for every single character's story, and she's got her own kind of snark, too.

I'm wondering if I should do that Halloween Trick or Treat meme...

Vincent Price, burn victim
There were good things yesterday! Went to the Gnomon preview day yesterday, saw some dudes from school that I haven't seen in awhile, and also talked with a few companies. Afterwards, [livejournal.com profile] yamikonumber7 and I went to see Rifftrax Live, and hooooooly crap we laughed our heads off. That was an awesome show full of many lulz. I need to get that one on DVD. XD

I also completed a page of things yesterday. I need to keep doing more pages of things:

A Page of Things )

Less good things today...my tablet is dying, and fast. D8 The cord is torn at the root where it connects to the tablet, and there are little bits of wire starting to twist out. Pretty sure the tablet is past its warranty. Which means I need to either magically be able to fix this wire (very unlikely) or else it's time to buy a new tablet. Uuuuugh this is money I did not want to spend. X(

Help me out, artists on my flist. What would you recommend? I am looking at either the Intuos 4 Wireless or the Intuos 4 medium-size. I had an Intuos 3 before and an Intuos 2 before that; it seems they've discontinued those since then. I would loooove to get a Cintiq, but I just can't afford it right now. :( Does anyone on my list use the Intuos Wireless? How is it? Is it worth the extra money? If this last tablet is dying because the wire got twisted up, then it may be advantageous to avoid wires in the future...

Day 19 - Wayne's World )

Day 20 - Gojira (Godzilla) )

And there's a new Lunargyros page up today; read it here.

Obligatory heading to con post
Well, aside from my car getting smashed up and all, it was a pretty good weekend! My brother was kind enough to lend me his car until we went and got a rental yesterday, so we were able to do everything we planned! This included Disneyland on Saturday (my birthday and Disneyland's birthday) with [livejournal.com profile] purapea, [livejournal.com profile] ggmoonycrisco, [livejournal.com profile] yamikonumber7 and [livejournal.com profile] universejuice! Yes it was crowded and hot, but we still managed to do everything that we set out to do. We rawked all over the place.

Sunday, I took GG and Pura out to Hollywood, where they were able to get their tourist on with the walk of the stars and the major theaters like the Kodak and the Chinese Mann. We also went and saw Toy Story 3 at the El Capitan (I cried...again!) and got delicious ice creams at the soda fountain. Very successful! I'm actually glad I decided to pony up for parking instead of having us walk all the way from Gnomon.

Also had birthday dinners with friends and family on Thursday, which was also very nice! I got some sweet stuff:
- Cash for the con (much appreciated)
- This really adorable Sora amigurumi from GG
- Delicious British candies from Pura
- A new sketchbook from the fam
- The MST3K boxset XVII, which I will watch with anyone, anytime 8D

AND NOW, today will be for a little grocery shopping and packing stuff for San Diego, with bonus Traditional Con Freakout Time. I don't have a laptop to take along, so you probably won't be hearing from me on the internets until I get back. I can't wait to see both old and new friends there!

Oh, and before I go: two new Lunargyros pages, and they're up here.

She washed the towel in new fear-scented Tide!
First off: HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to both [livejournal.com profile] purapea and [livejournal.com profile] odd_on_purpose! Hope your days are awesome!

And to many on my flist...I wish you luck and love getting through the month. In my opinion, April is a nasty month. I can't recall an April that was ever REALLY that good, so I hope things get better for you soon. May is just around the corner!

I also forgot to mention so earlier, but I've posted two new chapters to that Destiny Islands fic: chapter six and chapter seven.

So I'm doing my MST3K-watching rounds again, and it got me thinking a bit. While all the episodes are funny, I've found some funnier/more enjoyable than others, and I wonder if it has to do with the movies they're riffing on. To me, it seems there are four types of bad movies they riff on:

- There's bad-goofy movies, which are fun to watch because they're just plain SILLY and nonsensical. (Most of the Gamera movies, Cave Dwellers, Prince of Space, Night of the Blood Beast, The Magic Sword)
- Bad-boring movies, which are movies where nothing at all seems to happen. (The Unearthly, Manos: The Hands of Fate, Monster A-Go-Go, Bride of the Monster, The Creeping Terror, Red Zone Cuba)
- Bad-preachy movies, which are movies that are bad because they try to get across some important message, but the filmmaker is incompetent or the message is completely outdated. (Most of the 50's educational shorts, Invasion USA, The Sinister Urge, The Violent Years, High School Big Shot)
- Bad-upsetting movies, which are movies that are not only BAD, but leave you feeling slimy and rotten. (Eegah, Kitten With a Whip, Parts: The Clonus Horror, It Lives By Night, Squirm)

In my opinion, the episodes riffing the bad-goofy movies are the funniest, and the bad-upsetting ones are the least funny. (In a general sense...there's always good riffs in any episode). Do any MST fans have types of movies they prefer to watch because the jokes seem easier to laugh at? And do today's bad movies also follow patterns of bad-goofy, bad-boring, bad-preachy and bad-upsetting like older bad movies do?

Another True Lynx Story
Because if there's one thing I won't stand for, it's having people pass up an opportunity to laugh at my misfortune!

Bugs )

I can't stop compulsively checking behind me. 8(

IN MUCH BETTER NEWS, I just got back from Rifftrax Live with [livejournal.com profile] yamikonumber7 and [livejournal.com profile] ghettopeach, and we laughed our faces off! Lots of shorts about Santa's toys coming to life and wreaking havoc, or Santa kidnapping children, or Santa invading the dreams of young children and making their toys come to life. There was a theme of evil toys. OH THE FIFTIES, WHAT WAS WRONG WITH YOU. There was also a short about THE LITTLEST CHRISTMAS TREE, and somehow a barbershop trio singing about pork. At the end, there was an animated Rudolph short:

*Santa enters Rudolph's bedroom in the middle of the night and gently prods him awake*
Santa: Rudolph, I need you tonight.
Riffers and entire audience: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

SMALL AND OF NO ACCOUNT

Also, Kel, thank you SO MUCH for the art book! ♥ ♥ More stuff to talk about actually, but for now, I gotta get to bed and pray the bugs never ever return.

MST3K geekery, AWAY!
Yup, another new Lunargyros page is up today.

And eeee, [livejournal.com profile] yamikonumber7 just passed on something she got for me: a copy of 'Cinematic Titanic,' which is produced by all of the original MST3K crew! It's even autographed by Joel Robinson and J. Elvis (the voice of Tom Servo!) :D SOOOOO EXCITED YAY and jealous I didn't get to meet Joel at Gallifrey, too! so I'm gonna pop it in and watch during lunch right now. THANK YOOOOU, KIA! ♥

Otherwise...eek, final projects are fast approaching. D: Not worried about ZBrush, animation's coming along okay, but I'm probably gonna have to take a weekend or so and work on the wings for sculpture. Had to go out and buy the extra supplies yesterday. :P

Drawing: More portfolio stuff today...might practice from different styles.

I have to wear this dress. It's part of my "family research."
Oh yeah, it's V-Day today, huh? I suppose I should do something for it. Here, have a new Lunargyros page that has lots to do with Valentines! Or Halloween, I can't remember. Also, there'll be a new page tomorrow, so look for that.

OKAY, okay, I will totally be serious this time. VERY serious. If you are indeed one of the many who will be doing something special with your sweetheart, it's important to know What To Do On A Date:

And now that you know what to do on a date, it's time for that big question: Are You Ready For Marriage? :O

Meanwhile, I will enjoy those little chalk hearts. Omnomnom.
