There were good things yesterday! Went to the Gnomon preview day yesterday, saw some dudes from school that I haven't seen in awhile, and also talked with a few companies. Afterwards, yamikonumber7 and I went to see Rifftrax Live, and hooooooly crap we laughed our heads off. That was an awesome show full of many lulz. I need to get that one on DVD. XD

I also completed a page of things yesterday. I need to keep doing more pages of things:





Less good things today...my tablet is dying, and fast. D8 The cord is torn at the root where it connects to the tablet, and there are little bits of wire starting to twist out. Pretty sure the tablet is past its warranty. Which means I need to either magically be able to fix this wire (very unlikely) or else it's time to buy a new tablet. Uuuuugh this is money I did not want to spend. X(

Help me out, artists on my flist. What would you recommend? I am looking at either the Intuos 4 Wireless or the Intuos 4 medium-size. I had an Intuos 3 before and an Intuos 2 before that; it seems they've discontinued those since then. I would loooove to get a Cintiq, but I just can't afford it right now. :( Does anyone on my list use the Intuos Wireless? How is it? Is it worth the extra money? If this last tablet is dying because the wire got twisted up, then it may be advantageous to avoid wires in the future...




Wayne's World
While this definitely wasn't the best or most compelling or most anything movie on my list, it was funny enough, and I can see why it has a fan following. It's the sort of sly fourth-wall-narrative of Ferris Bueller's Day off with goofy cliches, but it's silly and charming in a way that manages not to cross the gross-out barrier. It's actually kind of funny how many jokes in that movie have seeped into popular culture (the Bohemian Rhapsody song becoming popular, for one, and I swear the DOODLEY DOODLEY DOODLEY bit has shown up in sporkings even though I hadn't seen the movie.) Don't think it's my favorite thing ever, but it was fun enough in its own way.

Also, this is probably the most likeable role I've ever seen Mike Meyers in, which is saying something.



Gojira (Godzilla)
Now I'm a huge sucker for giant monster movies, so I knew I'd enjoy the movie that really kicked off the genre, but it was definitely a little different from what I was expecting. There was, of course, the kind of goofy rubber-suit effects and destruction porn that shows up in pretty much every giant monster movie since this one. But unlike all the other Godzilla and Gamera movies, those parts were kind of downplayed compared to most of the movie, which dealt more with the human element. It seems like Cloverfield really was the spiritual successor to this movie...in how it was presented and the message it was getting across. Gojira invoked a lot of imagery from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, while Cloverfield invoked a lot of imagery from 9/11, and both movies were trying to deal with these horrible events in a way that was both fantastical but relevant. In both, the idea is that to the average citizen, war (whether nuclear warfare or terrorist warfare) is just a rampaging monster that destroys indiscriminately. Even Cloverfield's Roar! Overture sounded really similar to Godzilla's thundering theme.

It's really kind of funny how the giant monster genre has evolved into a very kid-friendly kind of area (AND GOD-ZOOOOOOOKIE!) considering the original movie is actually very dark, quiet and thought-provoking.
