Now it is time for a preview of the world of tomorrow
Everyone else went to the Ren Faire today, but since I have to go to class in about an hour and a half, I couldn't accompany them. Feh! So yeah, I mentioned I saw the movie on Thursday, but just now get to talk about it!

Rei, Kel and I went to see Meet the Robinsons together! I haven't been to an animated movie in the theater in aaaages, and the tickets for me and Kel were free, so I actually splurged and bought movie food for once. $12.00 for a small popcorn, medium drink and Twizzlers to split between the three of us? Yeah, there's a reason I don't do that often; but again, it was a splurge.

Half the reason I go to movies in the theater is to see previews (and there were no commercials this time, hooray!) There was a preview for a live-action Underdog movie. I lawled so hard. But I wish they'd shown the extended trailer for Ratatoullie! (Or however you spell it!) Before the movie, they also showed an old Mickey, Donald and Goofy short in which they build a put-it-together-yourself boat. They named the boat the "Queen Minnie." This made me ridiculously more happy than it should have.

As for the movie itself, it was fun! I didn't see it in 3D, since Rei didn't want to see the 3D version and I didn't really feel like messing with the glasses at that point, either. It was nothing that just absolutely captures your heart and warrants multiple theater viewings, like the Disney movies of the early 90s seemed to do with something extra-special. And the moral was handed heavily and obviously: come on, Disney, kids do get subtlety these days, I promise!

But while it was no blockbusting Pixar film, it was still funny and just fun to watch. I liked the whole look and feel to the movie, although I had trouble figuring out when Louis's time was supposed to be (late 50s-early 60s?) But I really liked the rubber-bubble-rounded colorful look they gave to the future, almost alien in its sense of everyone's a little crackers, but that's okay. It's the first time I've seen a really kid-friendly, optomistic look for a "future film" in awhile, as most movies and TV seem to go for either a dystopian look, or just a cold and impersonal look even if the future itself isn't dystopian. Watching that reminded me a lot of listening to the Tomorrowland tracks from the 50s and 60s, when everyone thought that plastics, nuclear power plants and space travel would solve all the world's problems. It was refreshing in a nostalgic kind of way.

If for absolutely nothing else, the movie is worth seeing just for the villain. And not just Bowler-Hat Guy, as he was more comedy relief than anything else, and at some point I feel almost a mockery of the idea of villainy (He ruined the entire world's future just because of one bad event in his childhood that he could never, ever get over!) But the actual bowler hat itself was both hilarious and really scary. I mean, the whole climax of the film is that the future is turned into this Matrix-esque industrial nightmare that's ruled entirely by evil bowler hats. You cannot deny how awesome that is.

Oh, and randomly, I loved that the dinosaur was animated to look more like a Harryhausen model than an actual dinosaur. That just...made me smile. XD So yeah, the movie was just fluffy fun, and I liked the ideas it presented!

Oooh, and after schoolings on Wednesday, I made huge leaps of progress in FFXII! I beat all the way up through Judge Gabranthe and then Cid and Famfrit. So now I only have the endgame left! Which meeeeans...it's time to do nearly 80-odd hours of marks, hunts, espers and sidequests! 8D I've missed out on the Zodiac Spear, but I'd like to get some of the other best weapons for people if I can. I haven't updated weapons and armor in a long time.
And now, random thoughts:
- I got Cuchulainn, who was a huge pain in the ass with constant HP sap on the whole party. D: And then, almost the second I beat him, my TV shut off, and I went all DDDDDD8} Luckily, the PS2 was still running, so I didn't have to redo that madness or anything.
- Also got Zalera, who was a bit easier since I got excellent advice from friends and had my entire party go in on he/she/it at level 49. So most of the nastiest attacks didn't affect me, mwah!
- Pharos Lighthouse: WTFFFFFF, that took nearly five flipping hours to get through. D: And I didn't even explore the thing that carefully! The three main bosses throughout the tower weren't that huge a deal, but going after the Brainpans was a huge pain.
- I wanted to kick Reddas's gambits down the stairs. Stop attacking the wrong monsters, already!
- But I was still sad when he died. D: Poor Reddas! Now Balfonheim will not be as awesome.
- And Reddas was also a judge? Geebus, is there anyone here who wasn't a judge in their formal life? *Tries to picture Penelo as a judge...*
- Go Ashe go for making the right decision! :Db I knew she'd come through!
- What the hell, Gabranthe, you're kind of crazy in the head.
- What the hell, Cid, you're completely nutters. The crazy maniacal laugh kind of gives it away badly. Although I get the feeling that we'll be seeing him again before the end of the game. He turned into pyreflies!
- OMG cute Balthier/Fran scene I lurbles them both! ♥♥
- Go Basch go for making good decisions, too!
- Vaan, you're kind of the worst person to be leading the party, and yet I keep always making you my party leader when I can. I don't really know why that is, but I like the encouragement you gave Ashe. X3

No clue when I'll be able to play more, as this next weekend I'll be going places and doing things. But still! PROGESS. Progress is the sound of a motor...

I bought Roadsong 2 (FINALLY) a week back, and have been slowly working through it. It's fun so far!

I still don't know if I can go to Comic Con yet, arrrgh. DX I need to find this out ASAP.

I just realized: my brothers should be home by now! Or at least getting home really soon. I wonder if they'll give me a call.

EDIT: Fixed a bad tag, gah.

Drawing: Finished a doujin page yesterday, am about halfway done coloring the cast pic, need to color commishes, and finish the primitives homework 'cause I got sick of it fast. D:

Writing: FINISHED that OT3 pr0n, phew! And a third of the way through sporking!

I need to play FFXII again. I mean, I played it and I really didn't understand the playing system. I couldn't make my guy hit the monster for some reason. I just didn't get the whole line thing. Anyway, hearing everyone talk about it and having all the stories up about it, I kinda want to give it another go. Basically, what rating do you give it?

The playing system takes a bit of getting used to, so it's not quite instant-hitting-things like KH is, and not quite turn-based fighting like the other FFs are. Basically, you have to give your party leader an action (to attack something, magic it, steal from it, etc.) and they will keep doing that action unless a) they're not able to anymore, or b) you tell them to do something else. The little bar by their name is a "timer" on how long they take to perform that action, and however long that takes can be affected by how fast or slow you are, or what kind of status ailments you may have. Once you get lots of people in your party you start ordering their gambits, which is basically your way of telling the characters how to behave without you having to manually give them commands all the time. The gambits are also like directing your party members' priorities. For example, you can have a person who's a primary healer to list their first priority as casting heal if a person's health is below %30, their second priority to cast esuna or some other spell if they're poisoned, and their third priority to attack the monster. That way, you can concentrate on killing the monster yourself while knowing that your healer will jump in if your health gets too low.

As for a rating? Err, I haven't finished the game yet, but I'd probably give it a 7-8 out of 10. XD It's a long game full of bazillions of sidequests, but I actually enjoy playing it, so it's not as if the sidequests are a major annoyance. It does mean there's long spaces of time between the bits of plot, though.

Thanks a lot! I actually did go rent it again yesterday. I'm enjoying it a lot more now, but I haven't gotten very far yet. I didn't know that a green bar above an enemy's head meant they were neutral, so I tried to kill the big T-Rex before he got me. That sucker killed me in one hit! It did take me a while, but I'm understanding the playing system (know I understand it even better thanks to you), and I have absolutely fallen in love with the story.

Thanks,
