Oh like Columbo isn't going to figure THIS out.
Thanks to dudes who came over this weekend and hung out! I was super glad for the company. :D

I have another BBS fanarts! This one I did for a countdown, and you can view it here. I'll probably put it up on dA later.

Now for some movies...

The Jazz Singer
This will probably be the oldest movie I watch, unless I very suddenly switch something else with The Great Dictator or something. Since it was the first real movie with sound, I thought it would be lots of talking, although in reality it still looks and behaves a lot like a silent picture...complete with the dialogue being shown on dialogue cards instead of heard. It pops up in a few places, but mostly the sound was used for the singing parts, and even then the lip synch didn't always match up. Ironically, I got the sense while watching it that the show-off-our-cool-effects-and-forget-about-too-much-story deal that we think is prominent in today's movies (*coughAvatarcough*) has really been around as long as we've had movies. There were many moments in the film where they'd just stop and let the main character sing, as if to go HEY GUYS CHECK OUT THIS COOL TECHNOLOGY WE CAN PUT SOUND IN THE FILM LOOKY LOOKY LOOKY :D

All that aside, it WAS a good movie. Very much the typical story of the son with talent that defies his family to chase his dreams, but enjoyable nonetheless, in that old-timey sense. I don't know what it is about old movies, but it seems like the oldest movies always make you feel comfortable...like you don't really have to worry how it'll turn out the way you do more recent movies. It's hard to explain. Except for that part where it's like, AND SUDDENLY, BLACKFACE. 8| Yeah, it's the 20's so I'm not surprised it was there, it just totally threw me for a loop and I still can't figure out WHY they thought he needed to be in blackface.

Also, did they shoot movies a certain way back then to speed up film? It looks like large chunks of the film are running faster than normal speed.

Spellbound
Well considering the fact that YouTube really failed on this one, it was hard to watch this movie...seriously, the ending of the film is missing because of BLOCKED CONTENT crap. I could strangle something. Had to fill in what I couldn't see with Wikipedia. 8| But anyway, with what I did see...

It's kind of hard to go wrong when you have Alfred Hitchcock, Ingrid Bergman, Gregory Peck, and Salvador Dali designing a dream sequence. It's got all of the brilliant shooting and building suspense that Hitchcock usually does...seriously, only Hitchcock can make someone drinking a glass of milk seem threatening and unsettling! But unfortunately, the movie also had some of Hitchcock's Issues With Women, but that's almost to be expected. It definitely worked well as a psychological thriller...the characters, being psychologists, are constantly psychoanalyzing each other, although the science is a tad dated. So between dream analysis and triggers and symbolism, it all fits together like a puzzle the protagonists are trying to solve. I just wish I could have actually seen the end myself, because at least where I ended it, I didn't see the true explanation behind Gregory Peck's amnesia coming.

Drawing: LG, fanart, need to start on the board stuff again

Actually, blackface was considered an art form in theater all the way up through...oh, the thirties, I think. Since they wouldn't actually let black performers onstage, they would oftentimes get a white man or woman in blackface to perform a part. Quite a few performers in variety shows became famous for their blackface acts.

So yes, back then, it was art and the norm. |D /learned from that Stage Dance class whut

Yeah, I knew it was used often back then, I just didn't get why he needed to be in blackface for this particular part. Maybe because he was singing jazz, and "black people sing jazz?" \o_O/ I dunno.

(It is ironic that with how much Disney is afeared of 'Song of the South's racist bits, it was actually progressive for the time considering Walt actually hired a black man to play the lead!)

This will probably be the oldest movie I watch

Aw, no Nosferatu or Phantom of the Opera?

Sadly no, they're not on my list!

WOW that picture of Aqua is amazing!! I'm sure Devart will love it. :3

Wow only 22 more days. Time flies!! I really should finish up one of my KHBBS sketches I drew a couple of months ago. It'll be perfect for the occasion. <3 And I was planning to complete my Japanese version 100% by then but the requirements are ridiculous... ;-;

Thank you!

Yesh, more art is great! And huh, is the 100% that tough?

(And aww that icon is so cute)

So far the only KHBBS fanart that I finished was a picture I made for my badge. XD Aqua and Suicune! Weird KHxPokemon crossover... XD http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/161/e/7/Neon_Aqua_and_Suicune_VER__2_by_rasenth.png

I'm pretty sure that the KH staff sit around in meetings and chuckle to themselves how much harder they should make 100% completion in every following KH game. KH2FM+ was hard enough with all those bosses and minigames (The Org. XIII Data Battles, Lingering Sentiment, and Org. XIII mushrooms made me want to cry D: ). What sucks is that KHBBS has THREE characters you have to do 100% for everything for. You will soon learn the horror of Command Board.... *shudder*

(Those three are freakin' adorable XD)

Awww that is strangely appropriate and cute!

Aww blaaaargh. D: Well, I was planning to just skip normal mode and play everyone on proud mode so that I can see all the secret stuff without having to worry about 100%. Hopefully proud mode won't be killer. (It wasn't that bad in KH2, and supposedly it's not terrible in Days, either...)

It's not too bad in Proud mode! As always, it's only the beginning which is a huge pain. Thankfully, Shoot Lock will save your butt. XD Anyway, even through Proud mode you have to collect all the reports for each of the characters before you beat each of their final bosses to get the secret movie. Knowing this will save you so much time. Unlike me, who had to defeat each final boss a second time once I collected all the reports. *headdesk* That said, get all those treasure chests as soon as possible. *thumbs up* I want to tell this to everybody getting KHBBS but that's nearly impossible. XD

Yeah, I can see that happening, which probably means some leveling up before I go too far. XD (I tried shoot lock on the demo but couldn't get the hang of it; I was probably doin' it wrong...)

Okay, get all reports and treasure chests BEFORE final boss. :O I'm wondering if I should also shell out for the guide when I get the game...

Don't worry, levelling is ridiculously fun in KHBBS (at least for me). I got caught up trying to upgrade my D-links and trying out new move-sets. XD!! Oooo where did you play the demo? XD I want to play it in English before it comes out over here~

I highly emphasize getting as many treasure chests as you can early on. It'll help you out A LOT. XD I'm so glad I have my handy dandy KHBBS Ultimania guide book. Japanese strategy guides kick American strategy guides in the butt. XD Yay for extra interviews and artworks! \o/ I really want to translate the Ultimania interviews for fellow KH fans since I can't find them on the web. :3

Oh yay, that is good news. XD I tried it out at Comic Con, although it actually wasn't the demo so much as it was the full game, since I guess they got sent the wrong copies of stuff. 8D

fffff makes me wish I could read Japanese. And huh, I usually try and nab the treasure chests that I can, but I'm surprised they're this important in this game.

DAMN they had the full game???? XD It's awesome that they had it in Comic Con. <3 Eeeee, I can't wait for the cosplayers next year!

The first KH Ultimania interview has been left untranslated and it has a cute interview with the original Japanese voice actors! <333 Gahhh I am so starting translating it tomorrow. >:3

Lol sorry I totally noticed after I posted that I repeated myself. OTL. I ALWAYS DO THAT. I think I was just.. traumatized about the treasure chest thing. I had to do new game files because I screwed up (fail!). If you care about the Trinity Report, then they're important. XD

Yeah, if I really wanted to I could've left the level I was at and scrambled off to another world (in fact when I was playing Ven I ran off to Deep Space instead of wherever he was currently), but I couldn't really stay long enough to watch everything.

Yay translations!

Oh crap, I'll really keep that in mind, then...hope there's a place that lists if you got all the chests or not.

Ven!! <3 Do you remember what kind of commands you had in his deck?

Yup, there's a list just like KH2. :D I discovered that if you constantly compare where you get the treasure chests with the report list, you can figure out the order of areas that they appear. That saved me a ton of time. XD

Okay, will have to keep that in mind. XD
