Now for something completely different
Okay, per [livejournal.com profile] wyna_hiros's suggestions, I'm now cross-posting art I do to both DeviantART and LJ. Although this is a really weird one to start out on...

Another drawing spurred from one of my classes; this one from one of the Edgar Allan Poe stories we read. It's got all your classic Poe elements: beautiful woman dying young, madness, live burial, grave robbery, twisted obsessions, etc. I love Poe...he's like the god of all wannabe egomaniacal starving artists. XD

I actually kinda took two moments from the story and squished 'em together (the box with the extracted teeth isn't really supposed to be there) but I liked it better that way, oh well.

This was way random and different for me 'cause I used no pencils...started directly with inks. It was an interesting experiment.

Otherwise, school's been knocking me dead with all kinds of craziness. I guess I didn't expect homework to take up so much of my time, even though comparatively speaking, I don't have that much. Hrmm. It's still difficult to get much done at work with how many calls are coming through.

Today in particular was interesting. We watched "Forbidden Planet" in SF/F literature class because it was somehow vaguely based off of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Holy cow, that movie was hilarious. It was your classic baaad sci-fi movie from the 50's...flying saucers, giant computers, a robot that was basically a guy in a rubber robot suit, giant invisible lava monsters, and REALLY REALLY CHEESY sound effects. I couldn't help but MST the entire movie under my breath the whole way through. (And I think an actual official MST3K episode might exist for it?...) That class is so dang awesome. While it's a lot of reading, there's practically no analytical writing, so it's like getting to read fun fluff books for school. Super-fun. ^^

Also, I got rear-ended on the way home today. That scared the living crap out of me, although it could've been a LOT worse. Basically, the guy in front of me put on his brake lights, so I started to put on mine...only to realize he wasn't slowing gradually, he was actually *stopped.* So I put on the brakes pretty hard. The guy behind me pretty much did the same thing, except a few seconds too late, and he slammed into me. I don't know if I scooted up to the person in front of me, but if I did, he certainly didn't notice. We stopped and did the insurance number exchange. At worst, it seems we exchanged paint and dents. There's a bunch of white paint along my bumper, along with a fair number of dinks. The paint will come off easily, but the dinks might be harder. His car got a little silver paint too, plus I think his license plate got dented in. Neither of our cars were beauty queens already so it wasn't a massive loss, just yucky. I'll have to ask my dad what he wants to do about it since it's technically his car. At least if it does come down to a matter of insurance, I wasn't the one that did the rear-ending. It just shook me up...bleh! Must take more care on the road.

Also, my site is still down completely. Arrrrgh, I hate dealing with that stuff. DX Hopefully I'll have some time tomorrow. Stupid server, stupid registrar...

On a better note, [livejournal.com profile] gaelic_bohemian took us out to eat tonight at Yamatos, and it was SOOO damn good. Saved some of it for my lunch tomorrow, wee! And I love the flaming onion volcanoes! ^^

Alright, work and school again tomorrow, so I'm off to bed...

Drawing: I finished the animation I was working on weeee! XD You can see it here: It's a Marahute Summon! I've also been doing different sketches for [livejournal.com profile] ghettopeach's charity sketchbook; one of which is that Berenice picture. Finally heard back from Tim, YAY, so I've got to get to work making corrections on the comic thingy. It's intimidating, but I can do it! XD *dramatic determined pose*

Writing: Mostly stuff for my playwriting class. I actually wrote out a ten-minute play that didn't turn out half bad, thanks to Kel's good idea. ;)

I saw the pic and I thought... "it looks like Corpse Bride fanart!" ah... but such was not the case. Very Poe appropriate though... I remember my Edgar Allan Poe phase a few years ago. It was rather unhealthy, memorizing all those poems. And now I can't even get halfway through The Raven. Ah, old age is whittling away my memory. ^_^

Oh, man... you wanna see a HI-larious movie? Look for The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. Watch it with some friends... you'll end up in stitches. They made it like, 2 years ago, but it's in black and white and it's a parody of those cheesy 50s horror movies.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident! I know how that feels... my first car accident ended up with my car totalled and I was terrified. Good luck dealing with the insurance company! I hope they're not as craptacular as the jerks that handled my claim. >_<

And I had troubles with domain name registrar BS, too! (Why do we have similar problems?! ^^; ) Which is why our webcomic is currently down.

*Sigh* I'm just chatty tonight. ^^; Well, anyway, the pic is cool and looks very woodcut-ish and Edward Gorey-like. Yay for sketching with pens!

Ahh, I sooo cannot wait for Corpse Bride, it'll be frelling awesome. XD There's not enough good ol' fashioned stop-motion out there anymore...

I'll have to look out for that movie, it sounds great. I love dorky old sci-fi movies like that, and I love MST3K...it's like the birthplace of my sense of humor. XD (Well, that and my dad, but he's just wacky anyway...)

And scary, your accident sounds a lot worse than mine! o_O I'd much rather have the car scraped up a little than completely totalled. And yes, dealing with insurance is evil.
Although when I driving here today, I noticed the "check engine" light was on...greeeeat...

Hey, neat drawing! I love all the different textures! They're rough, yet elegant.
