Get a sketchbook & help with Katrina charities!
This idea was first suggested to me by [livejournal.com profile] wyna_hiros, and I thought it was such a good idea that I wanted to try it as well. She's doing it over her LJ, and I'm cross-posting this to my DeviantART account. (So most of this is her words, I just copied/expanded on it here.) Hopefully others will like it, too!

The idea is this: A sketchbook, completely filled with sketches and drawings on the fandom of your choice. The sketches can range from very rough to very detailed; perhaps even a few (very quickly) inked or colored-pencil ones. The buyer picks the fandom (or fandoms) they want. ALL of the proceeds for the sketchbook will go to the buyer's charity of choice, if they have a preference.

Obviously, the fandom I know the best and can get the most ideas from would be the Kingdom Hearts series. However, some other fandoms I know well enough to do sketches from (or at least try sketches from them) include:

- Final Fantasy X (Sorry, I don't know X-2 well enough)
- Gargoyles
- Anything Disney and/or Pixar
- Wolf's Rain
- D.N.Angel
- X-Files
- Harry Potter
- (some) Lord of the Rings
- (possibly) Star Wars or Firefly/Serenity
- Silent Mobius
- Super Smash Bros Melee
- Tsubasa/xxxHolic
- Escaflowne
- Azumanga Daioh
- I can also do non-fandom related: original characters, expression sheets, fantasy, sci-fi, animals, dinosaurs, etc.

Please keep in mind that the more familiar I am with a fandom, the easier it will be for me to come up with ideas and draw them. Also, NO porn or anything of the like. Slash or Het can be included, but nothing heavy R or NC-17. Basically, I won't do anything more extensive than that Axel/Larxene pic that's currently up.

Here's how it works:
- The buyer picks the fandom(s) or lack thereof of their choice, and the size of the sketchbook they would like. PLEASE keep in mind that the larger the sketchbook, the more it will cost to ship it. The buyer will pay for shipping and the cost of the sketchbook, as well as the money that goes to their preferred charity. Please keep in mind that this will NOT be super-cheap: It will be at *least* $100 or more, plus the cost of shipping. But again, ALL of this money will go to the preferred charity; if the buyer doesn't have a preference, then I'll pick one.
- Once the buyer picks the fandom and we work out details, I'll give them the full price of the sketchbook, just do they know how much it will be and have the chance to back out if they so wish. The money can be sent to me via PayPal and I will pass it along to the charity, OR, the buyer can give it to the charity directly. However, I DO need proof that the money will go strictly to that charity, whether in the form of a receipt (preferred) or a screenshot of the online transaction. Similarly, if the donation is sent to my PayPal account, I will provide proof that it has been sent to the correct charity. However, I will *not* snail-mail the sketchbook to you until I'm certain that the donation has been sent to the right place. Once the funds are taken care of, you'll get the sketchbook in the mail.
- If the buyer would prefer not to have to pay for shipping, I *can* scan in the pages and email them to you, and you'll bypass the cost of shipping. However, the point of sending the sketchbook via snail mail is so that you have real-life originals that'll probably never be available anywhere else. If I send the originals, I will probably scan them in for my own purposes (I like keeping at least one copy of stuff I do; giving or selling originals is rare for me!)

Interested? Then please comment, IM me, or e-mail me at comixgirl@hotmail.com . It would help if you provide contact info such as email or an IM screenname, so that I can keep you updated on the sketchbook's progress. I'll also keep a list here of those that get a sketchbook and the progress on it/them.

If for whatever reason you can't afford this, but like the idea, please pimp it to other artists! The more that try it out, the better.

One of my roommates has a family that lives in New Orleans. They don't know if they have a house to return to, and my roommate's cat is still missing. And they are still some of the lucky ones...there are thousands that have lost loved ones, have no insurance, or are badly in need of medical supplies. I will probably donate some of my own money as well.
So...buy a sketchbook! I get drawing practice, you get an original one-of-a-kind sketchbook, and the people in Louisiana and Mississippi get the help they need!

Super-awesome idea
Hey, it's Kel. What an awesome way to combine charity and creativity. Maybe I'll do something similar with my writing. Although I don't know how to that without making people feel like I'm cheating them, or how to make sure they send the money...

Anyway, I want one. I'll go ahead and send $100 to the Red Cross or somesuch, since it's not like you'd have to pay for shipping all the way to the room next door. ;-) I'll let you know what kind of miscellaneous stuff I want when I get home. Talk to you soon!

That's a good idea.
BTW, did you know the link to Jerry the Frog Productions is broken? Either that, or the site is down.

Thanks! (Pass it around! ;))

And yes, the site is down, though I have no idea why. I wrote to the tech support of my server; am waiting to hear back from them. Hopefully it'll be soon, and this won't be a big problem.

Wandered here through [livejournal.com profile] wyna_hiros. Mind if I add a link to this in a post I made earlier today about these projects?

Thank you! (Actually, Wyna told me to go ahead and do that, as you probably wouldn't mind, so I did. *hides*)

Thank you for what you are doing with this.
