My thumbs are sore
Happy 2009, everyone! I'm hoping this year treats you all like kings. Or at least like cool people that deserve to have awesome things invade their lives.

Yesterday the family drove back up to Bakersfield for a surprise birthday party for my grandma, since she turned 70. And she was totally 100% surprised! It's always great when those sorts of things work out. :D Good lunch and then cupcakes for all.

So I have had the chance to try out some of the video games I purchased! I tried out Shadow of the Colossus, and UUUUUUGH. Maybe I'm just spoiled by KH's mash-the-x-button-until-it-dies battle system, but JEEBUS was that game difficult to do. D: I died twice just fighting the first boss, because for the life of me I couldn't get the hang of the controls. The music and the art and animation are all indeed very pretty, but...uuuugh, I have no clue how I'm going to beat all of the colossi if I have trouble on just the first one. D:

I also tried out Elite Beat Agents, and considering the fact that I can play the DS in the car, I was able to get much farther. I've made it through Agent Spin and J's levels; am now on Chieftan's. HOLY CRAP. I seriously listened to Jumpin' Jack Flash for TWO HOURS STRAIGHT trying to beat that level, fffffffff. D: I really don't think I'm going to beat all of Chieftan's levels, if I was dying like mad on J's. This game is WAY tougher than DDR, at least in that it seems to punish you for doing mediocre instead of just doing badly. D8

Also also, very nearly have all the secret reports in TWEWY. /o/ Still have to tackle the Another Day report...

Drawing: A fanart, Lunargyros pages, I need to start doing some different storyboards.

Writing: More for DC.

Shadow of the Colossus is one of those games that gets easier as you go. Rly.

Watch out for the tenth and thirteenth colossi, though. Horseback boss battles, wut.

Holy crap, I hope so. Just trying to get the hang of those controls while getting smushed into tiny pieces was really discouraging. ;_;

OH JOY

...Why do I feel like I should recognize your icon? :O

It was tough for me at first as well, but I got used to it and now I love the controls. And then I learned all the fancy tricks you can do on your horse, like hanging off the side, standing up, and making him turn around in mid-gallop...FUN.

I don't know? XD It's from The Neverhood. ...i.e., that video game my AIM screen name is based off of. If that helps at all. >_>;

Guess I just gotta practice a ton more. o_O

That's so weird, I could've sworn I saw it in a cartoon somewheres.

Standing up is...R1 and X if you want Agro to keep galloping. Hanging off the side is like, push the shoulder buttons plus triangle and hop on one one foot (I can't remember but there's lots of buttons involved and it's ridiculous) >_>;

Claymation is universal, maybe...? Or you could've just seen the cutscene somewhere. Who knows?

Hmmm, okay. Yeah, it's actually those button combinations that are doing me in, just 'cause I haven't played a game yet that required you to hold down certain buttons while tapping others, especially something like R1.

Could be anything!

Yeah, some of the button combinations are just plain retarded. I'll give you that.

Oh god, watch out for the small colossi. D: The music in the game is amazing, they need more epic fights HO SNAP stuff like the fights in SOTC in more games. :D

Which ones are the small ones? D: And yeah, the music is definitely gorgeous. *Has the soundtrack, woo!* But sheesh, the learning curve on this game is steep!

The small ones will be the salamander/lizard, the lion and the boar/cat. Also watch out for the final one cause I raged at that one.

Well, once you know where the weak spots are, the game's too easy. Just gotta figure out how to hold on (you might want to look for white tailed lizards around the save shrines - if you kill them and eat their tails, it'll up either your stamina bubble or your life bar. That and fruits from trees).

Eeeeek *hides!*

That's another thing: I couldn't figure out how to hold up the sword to find the colossus's weak spots; I just kinda guessed with the leg thing and then knew you had to climb up onto its head eventually.

Really? Woah didn't know that, that's useful to know!

Speaking of gaming, I'm getting a DS next month. I can't remember if you have one, but if you do, or have played one, can you recommend any good games?

Umm...yeah, forget the part where I asked if you had a DS. Missed that in your post. *blushes*

I do have one! I'd recommend most anything I've played so far, because I've enjoyed everything I played on the DS. :D Get any and all of the Phoenix Wright games, because they're a bucket of laughs and are relatively easy to play. TWEWY was also lots of fun, and I think did an amazing job of taking advantage of the DS's touch screen capabilities.

Thanks so much! I think you actually mentioned the Phoenix Wright games before, and I've been looking to buy them ever since. I will look into TWEWY.
