From Tuesday, there's a new Lunargyros page. /obvious update
First off, just wanna give big hugs to much of my flist. I know a bunch of people are going through really tough stuff right now, and if I could, I'd go around to everyone and make everything better! But that would require cloning myself, time travel and possible armed robbery, none of which are things I'm terribly good at. So I just want to say that I'm thinking of you all. ♥
I've been pretty busy with school-related stuff, so have a schoolwork dump and babble
Sculpture on Monday (and into Tuesday) was...way more intense than I was expecting. The teacher, while a nice guy, is also particularly strict and is not afraid to yell at you if you're doing it wrong. Kind of a change from most of the other teachers here, who are pretty mild-mannered late-20s guys who get the most excited about showing you the model for This One MMORPG Character They Made. But this class of sculpture also involved many sharp objects and power tools, both of which I am a total wuss around. D: It was pretty much four hours of measuring, twisting and cutting aluminum and steel wire, and brass tubing and steel pipes, all to the tune of "You must do it exactly this way, and do it in 15 minutes or less!" I also got to experience the joys of working with quicksteel! And in that class, I learned many things about quicksteel, including:
a) It absolutely reeks to high heaven
b) It will stick like glue to your hands, but not the wires you want it to, naturally
c) It only comes off your hands with generous doses of rubbing alcohol.
BUT! I did, eventually, complete my armature. I'm hoping that it's all correct, as if it isn't it'll make my life more difficult. But it was definitely a learning experience.

I eventually want my sculpture to look something close to this. (It's an original character from a novel-writing class back in college.) Apparently the wings are going to be an issue to sculpt in of itself; they require another kind of armature that the teacher will show me later. Yipe!
In contrast, ZBrush is a lot less messy, but difficult in different ways. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it better. I'm having fun with it, anyway:

The first of many "bad heads" done for practice. Basically just sculpted straight from a sphere in ZBrush.

My second "bad head," although he's missing eyes. Need to add those in.

Trying something more specific for my third one. Points of awesome if you can guess who it is. 8D I actually got decently far on him and then realized it looked like ass. So I'm trying to smooth back what I had before and start over. And this time, make it look better! Geez, those hard edges are actually difficult to do.

Very first part of my final project. I actually started in on the Balrog in ZBrush, then discovered there wasn't enough geometry in the mouth area. So, time to start over again. Extreeemely basic base mesh, but apparently the teacher said this is a good place to start from.
And finally...this isn't school-related, but I think I posted it on dA a few weeks ago and never did so here:

Dorkiness, AWAY!
Planning to play more PW tonight for anyone who cares for a running commentary of 3-3. \o/
Drawing: Lunargyros pages, plus continued work on various artthings.
Writing: LG-related stuff.
