IT'S NOT A LION.
So I just got back from seeing "Cloverfield" with [livejournal.com profile] yamikonumber7!

- I thought that the movie would totally make me want to hurl, since I normally am not a big fan of camera-shaking-handheld-style movies. But this one? I actually did okay in. Either something about it prevented me from disliking the camera-shaking, or I've become horribly desensitized since then. Who knows.
- Ironically, I think the best use of that whole camera trick was when they were in the helicopter, and the monster just got bombed, and then was all LOL JK and smacked the helicopter and it went into this huge tailspin. It really made you feel like OHGOD IN CRASHING HELICOPTER WE'RE ALL GONNA DIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE
- I was kind of expecting it, but I found it interesting how the movie was mostly a study of how humans react in crisis and emergency situations. That switching back and forth between the mob mentality of "stay together, flee together!" and then the individualized desperation, plus inherent curiosity at what the problem is. Felt very real.
- That said, the only time my suspension of disbelief went kabooey was when they climbed up the one skyscraper, hopped over to the collapsed roof of the other skyscraper, and then still managed to get the girl IMPALED ON REBAR back over the roof and out of the building. I was not expecting anyone to survive that.
- Saddest part of the movie: when the mom calls Jason (I think that's who it was?) and was asking if they're okay, and he lies to her. :(
- I'll admit I only barely skimmed over what most of the cast was up to (although their reactions felt very real) but I was sad when Hub got eaten. :( He was the coolest guy, IMO, and even though I knew he was gonna kick it, I was still rooting for him.
- I can deal with the giant monster stomping on New York. The Not Okay parts? Giant KILLER ISOPODS ATTACKING IN THE TUNNELS. That was not okay. Anything with giant insects is worse than the actual monster. Also: since when do video cameras have night vision lights, whut? That was one spiffy video camera.
- Re: the Monster: so it looked to be basically...giant frog meets Jurassic Park raptor, plus Predator-style mouth and bubble-ears. Okay. The long legs was a neat idea, although I personally would've gone with a different look for the monster's face. Mouth was good and scary, but the eyes weren't mean enough, and the earbubbles made him look like Mickey at that part where Hub got eaten. BTW, I totally want a macro with the monster in that shot, and the phrase HAI GUYZ.
- Holy crap, digital effects artists, I feel sorry for you. D:
- The monster is not a lion.

So, my bottom line: If you a) Like monster movies, b) don't mind staring at peoples' feet walking through rubble for about a third of the movie, and c) don't mind scary stuff/blood/explosions, go see it! It's a unique moviegoing experience. :3 And Yamiko was clinging to me a lot of the time, LOL.

Aside from that? I have bravely been pressing onward with Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations! I am currently on the third case! And since I was chatting with [livejournal.com profile] ggmoonycrisco yesterday as I was playing the game, here's some snippets of my reactions to the case:

Okay, they looked terribly alike, so I was getting confused. :P Oh right, Jason was the brother that got whapped with the tail. I think the "main" character was Rob.

No seriously, that music is STUCK IN MY HEAD AT THIS VERY MOMENT.

...That is a good point. D: If everything is so friggin' pink, why are the outfits suddenly orange? Unless they double as construction worker outfits?
