Holy shaznack, moving is hell. The sooner this whole thing is over, the sooner I'll be able to stop twitching from the emotional and physical convulsions of pain. Yesterday was probably one of the longest days of my life, and I'm so exhausted I can hardly think straight.
Thanksgiving was fine; I went with the family out to visit more family at Bakersfield, and we ate food and visited and relaxed for a token few hours. We didn't stay as long as normal, however, as 'rents had papers to do (isn't it scary when *parents* can't have holidays because of papers to write? o_O) and because of moving.
Friday was all kinds of wacky. Brothers came over and helped move stuff with the wonderful van. (SCREW having a huge-ass SUV, our river-barge minivan works just fine) And Acchan and I spent quite a bit cleaning up the kitchen. We also took quite a bit of a break to play DDR and SC2, which brothers hadn't played before and enjoyed immensely. After we did several runs over to the new house, we went to go pick up OPR-kun, and nearly laughed ourselves to death by 1) thinking we were going to miss the next episode of 'Enterprise' because Osaka-chan's car clock was an hour ahead, 2) OPR-kun being slightly tipsy, and 3) being really, really tired. We scrounged for leftovers and watched Family Guy DVDs until bedtime.
And Saturday was one of the longest days I've experienced in years. I worked straight from 8 am to 8 pm with maybe a half-hour break for pizza. We did about three loads total, including the massive U-Haul run, which went slightly easier than expected, considering we were moving that ginormous refrigerator, the washer and dryer and the couch. $%&@ the management for screwing us over! If we'd had that damn relocation money like they frelling PROMISED us, yesterday wouldn't have been so hellish. Oh yes, and it started raining practically the hour we went to pick up the U-Haul. Thanks fate, we love you, too.
In any case, with working together and with the help of wonderful friends and family, we managed to move over all of the large, terribly heavy appliances and a good crapload of other stuff, including practically all of the kitchen (which was a nightmare in of itself) However, there are still many things to be moved (including my bedframe and bookcase) all of which need to be done today. Oh yes, and we must clean the old place too (thankfully not as much as the apartment before that.)
When I got home last night, I was so exhausted I was sobbing. I probably would've slept much longer if it wasn't for the fact I needed to be at work at 7:30 this morning. Arrrrgh. I just want this whole dang move to be done and over with so I can get back to my life. I never realize just how emotionally and physically draining moving is until it happens. After this, I don't want to move again for a LONG time. Certainly not six months after we just moved in, DAMN them.
These past two nights have had a beautiful full moon just perfect for howling at. It was really nice (and inspirational!) driving home and seeing the moon come out of the clouds after it had been cold and raining all day.
Unfortunately, the cable company won't set up our cable and internet connection until Friday, which means I won't have internet access at home for the entire week. Arrrgh. I'll just have to check internet stuff at work. Huh, I suppose I'll be too busy unpacking to have time to work much on the computer, anyway. I'd like to be completely unpacked by this weekend. No telling whether or not it'll happen, but I'd really like it to be that way (especially since we're heading into finals week with a vengeance.)
I have to give a big shout-out to all of OSTOCOM, plus OPR-kun, Acchan's parents, my troglodyte brothers and Bonehead dad for helping us move this weekend completely through their own goodwill, while handling work and school and Thanksgiving weekend. You guys are completely awesomely awesome, and we couldn't have done it without you!
