Back at work again on Sunday, le sigh, but at least the next two weeks I have Sundays off. ^^ Homework is not killing me as much as it was last week, but I still have a research project to do entirely tonight, and I'll probably have a crapload of stuff next weekend. T_T
So I finished reading Locke (admittedly we only had about a week to read it anyway) and discovered much to my horror that I disliked reading Second Discourse on Government even more than Paradise Lost. I don't even know if I could make a puppet show out of it if I tried. He repeats things so often and in such convoluted language that it's difficult to discern any real arguments. Any real arguments where he doesn't contradict himself two chapters later, anyway. And our democratic system of government was inspired by such rambling...hmm, that explains a lot. Next we're reading Defoe (don't remember the actual book title...) so hopefully that won't be nearly as bad as Locke was.
Yesterday I went to see 'The Forgotten' as part of our Screenwriting class. It was an interesting movie, although I'm starting to understand that this class does ruin movies for you. When I pay so close attention to structure and formula, it's hard for me to watch a movie now without noticing a formula in it and then analyzing it. I know I make fun of that in puppet shows, but it's rather frightening to realize that most movies follow the formula TO THE MINUTE. All successful or well-liked movies, anyway, which is why practically everyone uses it. I have no problems with the formula itself, because obviously it works. I just think very few people realize that movies are tailored to their liking on a minute-by-minute basis, and that they're essentially watching the same story told ten thousand million different ways.
Speaking of, I really need to read 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces.' Along with Scott McCloud's 'Understanding Comics.' I'd much rather be reading either of those than most philosophy, which pretty much runs like this:
Part 1: I don't mean for everyone to believe the same thing I do, but I KNOW I'm right.
Part 2: I have made a point using circular arguments.
Part 3: I have contradicted said point using the same circular arguments.
Part 4: However, it's okay for those two points to contradict because of this point.
Part 5: By the way, the point I just mentioned is my personal experience and opinion and has no real solid arguments to support it.
Part 6: I'm going to throw in some political discourse that pisses me off and led me to write this book in the first place.
Part 7: As I have adequately proved, I am always right and philosophers should rule the world. The End.
However, the main source of my frustration has been working with Dreamweaver and trying to revamp the website. I worked on it for like four hours yesterday, and wasn't much farther than when I started. This is probably just beginners' cramps; I'm sure the more I work with it the easier it will become. Again, I just wish I had the four or five hours to set aside to learn all this important software. I'll just have to make the time, as always. :-P
I've also discovered that I have no patience for code. Learning HTML would probably be pretty easy, but I just much prefer to work visually than numerically. Perhaps I'll learn some basic coding in my multimedia minor? Doubtful, but possible...
Operator status: decent for a Sunday. I love being able to blast music. XD
Maya PLE comprehension status: 24% What's that, polygons? You want to brain-rape me?
Macromedia Studio comprehension status: 30% I have a feeling this status will be pretty synominous with the website reconstruction status.
Website reconstruction status: 10% Several more graphics done, and am now finally starting to put the pages together. I've been messing around with templates, but they don't seem to allow as much editing freedom as I'd like, so I may just end up building each page from scratch. XP (If anyone knows anything about how to tame Dreamweaver templates, please comment!)
Drawing: Finished Wolf's Rain fanart, and it's now on DeviantART! (comments, please! T_T) Up to page 48 in thumbnails; not sure how far I'll go till I start actual pages.
Writing: Should probably be working on research project, but I'm going to work more on the Lunargyros script today.
