- *Bawwwwwwwwww* T_T
So, since I've finished, here's my final thoughts:
- I enjoyed the game a lot! It's definitely worth getting, especially as a DS game. Seriously, get this sucker.
- Did I like it better than the original Okami? Eh, I don't think so. There were many things I liked about it, but overall I liked the original better. It's pretty hard to top the original, though, which is why "didn't like as much as the first" still equals "awesome game you should get."
- However, one thing that WAS better was drawing with the celestial brush. I could throw around cherry bombs in battle much easier than before, and just drawing around things was a cinch. There's a huge difference between actually drawing on something and fumbling around with the PS2 controller or even the Wiimote. (On the flipside, this did mean that the game was less forgiving than the PS2.) But yes, this kind of drawing was really made for something like the DS.
- There was sooooo much stuff in this game that was just downright adorable. Dripping with cute. It's like they took all of Okami and just turned the cute up to ten. It's difficult to not melt from squee at all of the little baby gods.
- This game was pretty much a close copy of the original, except with a few changes: you had partners that helped you on many things, mostly on navigating dungeons. While Ammy had more basic dungeon crawling, Chibi had a LOT of mazes and puzzles to solve. I was surprised at the number of mazes in this game, although it makes more sense for them to be here than with Ammy. The easier-to-use-brush (and the guidance brush) makes it possible to do mazes.
- Bosses here were harder, IMO. It was pretty easy for me to get through all of Okami without dying once. Here, I died four times while on easy mode. But man, some of the bosses (King Fury, Sen and Ro) were a huge pain to deal with.
- I feel like I missed a lot of sidequests, but it's possible that's just because there weren't as many, aside from sending people off to the cool village. The world was less explore-able than Okami, but that's probably because of the limitations of the DS engine. There was still plenty to do.
- There were plenty of time paradoxes and I'm a big sucker for those, so glee. X3
- I dunno how I feel about all of the ending. :( I cried at the end of this like I did for Okami, except for really different reasons. The ending of Okami was triumphant and hopeful, when everyone comes together to pray for Ammy and grant her her full godhood...it was like, "crying with hope" sort of tears. The ending of Okamiden was a lot more bittersweet, what with losing
- Overall, I enjoyed it...a nice follow-up to the original, definitely had the same production value, just dunno how I feel about the ending. Get it anyway!
And now, I should probably get to beds soon...
