WOW.
From the Fandom_Wank report, I just finished up with the most MIND-BOGGLINGLY-UNBELIEVABLE account of fandom history I have EVER read. I seriously just spent the last seven hours of my life glued to the computer screen. It felt like I was reading investigative journalism, a true-crime saga and the history of a famous dictator all centered around the Harry Potter fandom. I can barely comprehend the lengths to which this went, and I'm not even really a member of the HP fandom.
Also, it was a real eye-opener for me. I think I have a much better understanding of why, for example, the Harry/Ginny shippers are so hated by some. And for that matter, why people took the shipping wars so personally and vehemently. But it still kills my brain with why people went to such terrible lengths just to secure a place in fanfic writing and fandom. All this wank in the HP fandom...essentially caused by one person? I'm not sure whether to be astounded or terrified beyond all reason.
If you've got the time and interest, I'd recommend reading the entire tale, loooong as it is. I'd be especially interested to hear your thoughts,
sbcpanuru. ;)
(And is it bad that this just makes me CHOMP AT THE BIT for Book 7 to come out?)
