It's the new zoo review, comin' back at you
So today for drawing practice I drove myself out to the LA Zoo, and I proceeded to sketch myself various animals of coolness. Here are some results!

The elephant exhibit was under heavy construction, so I couldn't draw any elephants...sorry, GG! D:

Photobucket

Meerkats looking adorable as always, and red kangaroos! I did not know that it was impossible for kangaroos to walk...they only hop everywhere. Their legs are so intense.

Photobucket

I have always loved Komodo Dragons ever since I was little, so I draw them often. Also, apparently zookeepers hate dealing with cassowaries because they are frecking mean, nasty birds that hate you. Oh, and they can kick the head off of a lion. Seriously, this thing is like a dinosaur that forgot to go extinct.

Photobucket

Gorillaaaaaaaas. They make such interesting shapes, I like them.

Photobucket

On the other hand, I don't like chimps at all. I don't know why gorillas are fine and chimps aren't, but chimps really bother me for some reason. They always seem more sinister than playful.

Photobucket

Grevy's Zebra, and a kind of pronghorn whose exact name I forget. They had THE skinniest legs.

Photobucket

This Bactarian Camel was very nice and sat for me for awhile. And kookaburras are always so cute.

Photobucket

TIGERS. I don't know, there's just something about tigers. I'm not even a big a tiger fan, but when you see these animals in real life you just can't help but notice how beautiful they really are. These sketches don't do them justice.

Photobucket

Hippo! Hippos are kinda scary because they'll kill and eat people when you think they're supposed to be all cuddly. But I love those big round heavy shapes they make.

Photobucket

I went back to the kangaroos and did some colored pencil work on ballpoint, since it was hot and the 'roos were resting. Also, I fricking love the horns on those sheep. Those are some badass horns.

Photobucket

There was an ostrich way up close to me. Getting a good look at those things, it suddenly became apparent that they have really tiny heads and really huge bodies.

Photobucket

Ring-tailed lemurs, although I could never get their face right. I think their face is actually supposed to look creepier. And the river otters were napping.

Photobucket

An American Alligator sunbathing in his pool. He looked so relaxed.

Photobucket

And finally, I actually pulled out my watercolors and colored pencils and did a watercolor sketch of one of the giraffes. Wow, I loved that paper and those paints...I need to do something else with them.

All in all, the zoo was quite nice, although the layout was confusing. I could never find the aviary or reptile house. Also, I'm pretty sure I paid more for food there than I did for my ticket. :| And it got pretty hot today, so most of the animals were sleeping in the afternoon. Why didn't the zoo open until 10:00? Most animals are more active in the morning, zoo dudes.

Glad I went, though! I always always love the zoo. I just need to figure out what I want to draw next week...

Meanwhile...uuuugh, California, why are you failing at every possibly thing lately? Seriously, state, I want to punt you out a window.

I did a zoo drawing day to relax and practice, and while I feel practiced, I don't feel any more relaxed. -_-
