Yesterday was a pretty busy day! My mom's family came up for father's day, and we had a huge lunch with steak and roasted potatoes and all sorts of other goodness. This may be the last time that my grandparents come all the way up here, or at least my grandpa, so I'm glad they got the chance to.

After that I went up to [Unknown site tag]'s birthday party, which was awesome funtimes! Had delicious food (I had red velvet cake twice in one day from two different groups, what are the odds), did a bunch of fun games and got to chat with a bunch of friends that I haven't seen in forever. Totally my kind of laid-back, not-noisy, geeky party with people whose company I enjoy. :D

And then I woke up early this morning to go swimming...only to learn that they've drained the pool. And it probably won't be fixed again for at least a week. 8| Argh, there goes a week's worth of trying to develop this habit more...

Finally, so I decided that I wanted to try drawing the main characters from the Destiny Islands fic I just finished:




Sora's parents Taro and Emi, and then Riku's parents Hoku and Lana. XD (For some reason I couldn't stop Hoku from looking a little like Loz, WTF. May try and change up Emi's design a little, I dunno, but I wanted to draw them at least once.

I've thought about what I think their parents look like too, and it's interesting how we all have different ideas! Sora's Dad looks like what twenty-something emo kids now will look like in fifteen years or so, when gravity and metabolic changes have made those skinny jeans fit terrible XD

Oh dear, he's...not really supposed to look like an older emo kid. XD; Maybe I should've made his pants larger; he's supposed to be a fisherman.

I dunno! He does look kind of shy and uncomfortable in his clothes. it's a good design, and I do like the wave motif, I just never put it together with "man of the sea". He looks very... trendy. I keep picturing him as some older skater dude who never really lived his dream of being a great X games competitor in Rocket Power. Now I'm really running with it, sorry XD

Maybe part of the problem was trying to do Nomura-style costumes...I cannot wrap my head around how he does his designs, and it may be too obvious. /o_O\ It's like this combo of medieval and modern and punk or something.

I know the feeling. My friend and I started designing future kids, and have similar problems trying to figure out where all the reference comes from. He should do an exhibition, kind of like they had for Star Wars, where it documented the fashion and the cultural influences. It can't all be ass belts and ankle straps.

Yeah, it's like...I know he doesn't just go ZIPPERS AND BELTS, ZIPPERS AND BELTS when he sits down to draw this stuff, despite the jokes made about it. I just can't figure out what his thought process would be from character to what they wear. (Well, I can figure it out for Sora, but Riku or others...)
