I've seen too many movies this weekend
Was feeling down again, but I think (hope) that's passed, for the most part. I kind of want to like...do something for people, I don't know. I feel like I want to give more. My time, my money, my interest, my art, something. Sometimes I feel like I'm not being as good a friend as I could be. I feel like sometimes I make it all about me when I should be thinking more about how others are feeling. It's been nagging at me, and not sure how I can correct that...
In other news, I have seen so many movies lately, I don't even. Yesterday I went and saw Inception with my mom. Won't give too many spoilers, but overall, I enjoyed it! I don't think it was OMG THE MOST AMAZING ORIGINAL BRAINBREAKING MOVIE EVAAAR, since essentially it was The Dark Knight meets Paprika. XD But it was intense, fun to watch, and I kind of like how they left the ending open-ended juuuuust enough. Would definitely recommend dudes go see it. Also, I kinda wish they had played around with physics more in the dream worlds, because those were some of the most fun parts. And I don't know about anyone else, but at least when I dream, physics never behaves properly. It seems like all of my dreams have at least one portion where I seem to be operating in less-than-normal gravity.
Now for stuff that hasn't come out recently...
A Clockwork Orange
Maybe it was just my timing on this one, since I was feeling a little down when I started it, but I didn't care that much for it. The best word I could think of to describe this movie was ugly. The characters were ugly, the sets and costumes were ugly, the story was ugly, just everything about it was ugly. There were no really sympathetic characters, and I don't typically enjoy movies if there's no characters I can manage to care about. It was arty, to be sure, and had some really interesting shots. And I suppose if the point of the movie was to show an ugly world populated by ugly people, it succeeded. I don't know if I'll ever watch that one again, though.
Alien
Now this was a freaky-ass movie. Combined the best parts of sci-fi and horror into one scary movie, and virtually without the kitsch and cheese that's found in both genres. It was allll about atmosphere, and the atmosphere was perfect, especially with them using almost no music. Everything is scarier in silence, I think. I also think this movie is what happens when you let one designer (in this case, H. R. Giger) have most of the control over the look of the film, and I kind of wish more movies would do that. You get a much more distinct look in a movie if you give control to one design idea.
My only complaints were that I often couldn't hear what people were saying (seriously, was it shot that way? Lots of people talk quietly, and the Nostromo seemed rather large and industrial-heavy for a spaceship. But other than that, it was freaky and fun to watch. Oh, and Ripley was a total badass. I had heard this before, but actually watching the movie confirmed it. No wonder Sigourney Weaver is so famous within sci-fi circles.
Drawing: A bunch of the concept stuff in early sketches...not much to show
Writing: Not much at the moment

That's because the Nostromo is a towing spaceship and also loaded with tons of mineral ore and mining equipment. Basically it's a space barge! That's why it's so grungy.
alien is like my favorite movie ever ngl

Kinda makes me sad/frustrated sometimes because I have a broom I WANNA FLY DAMMIT.
Also, I get that feeling from time to time in terms of...being down and wanting to find a way to do something...idk.

Unfortunately I think that ugly was the entire point of the film.
