I feel you so much it's not even funny. One of the reasons that writing fic has always been so easy for me is that I know that there are people who like my writing and are already invested in the universe I'm borrowing. And I LOVE my fic-writing friends. I know that any time I put something new and pirate-y out, I'm going to get feedback and interaction, and I love it. So, when it comes time to psych myself up to do something original, even if it's something I know that people in the house AND people online might be interested in, it's harder because I know I'm on my own a little more.

One of the things that I think is going to be good for me is a community that one of my PotC writer friends started for sharing original fiction... it's a bunch of people I already and trust, we just happen to be sharing our original stuff rather than our latest adventures of Jack/James/Andrew/*insert other PotC characters here*. I'll bet there are a lot of fanartists out there who feel the same way, and if you were to start or promote an "original works" group, you'd get fanfriends jumping on like crazy.
