If it's gotta be about political stuff: Anything about Iraq. You can pull up oodles of information about how the war is affecting the lives of the soldier's families. Just interview anyone you might know that has a relative/friend in Iraq.
For anything else: How to find talent in yourself. How to survive college life. Just the normal everyday things! I personally think it's best to write about stuff that you're most familiar with. And I'm sure everyone can pitch in ideas for how to survive college life. Whether it's from buying books early to avoid the rush, or advice on cramming for tests...
