Happy Birthday to you, you live in a zoo...
Bwah, this weekend was extremely busy! @_@ Let's see if I can get it all...
On Saturday,
gaelic_bohemian and I got up at 5:00 to drive down to the San Diego Zoo! Despite the long drive, we still got there before it even opened, so we got to head right in and look around before the crowds got too bad. We saw practically everything throught the course of the day...the reptile house, all kinds of random animals in the children's zoo, the gorillas and orangutans, lots of aviaries, okapis, tigers, tortoises, hippos being cute, all kinds of monkeys, polar bears, and everything else!
We ate lunch at Albert's Restaurant close to the gorillas, which was really expensive, but I didn't really care 'cause the food was excellent and part of the money goes towards a good cause, anyway. We also went and saw an animal show in the afternoon, which was a bit kitchzy, but still fun because they had a binturong, a badger, a hornbill and this gorgeous cheetah that came out on stage at the end. They also have a trained golden retriever on stage at the same time to keep the cheetah calm, which I thought was really interesting. Binturongs are now my new favorite animals because they're so weird and have the cutest ears, and now I want to do a little charicature of one. Maybe as a new friend for Teo? I want to develop that story more...
I didn't do as many sketches as I wanted, mostly because we wanted to see everything and were kind of in a hurry. If I go back again sometime soon maybe I'll stick longer by just one animal and do a full drawing of them instead of fast sketches. I managed to draw a binturong, a Javan angle headed lizard, a gharial (which has a CRAZY NOSE,) a Kazakhstan corsac fox, a Sichuan takin, a Buerger's tree kangaroo (so cute!) and a Siberian lynx (my name, yaaay!) XD I'll post sketches whenever I get a scanner...
We walked around practically the entire zoo, so by the time we were done my feet were about to ready to fall off. Also by that time it was mid-afternoon and all the animals were taking naps (kinda sucks 'cause the lions, bears and such we did last, and they were all snoozing). But all in all, it was a successful trip. I loooooove animals! ^^
We tried to find the really good boba place with the flavored boba in San Diego, but weren't successful, so instead we stopped at the teeny place close by Disneyland and got dinner there. That was pretty good. X3 Although by the time I got home I was so exhausted I just read 'Bone' for a bit more and then completely crashed.
Sunday! Had to get up early again to head out to that Maya class, which I was again early for. Maybe I should start leaving the house later; I keep expecting the 101 to be crueler to me. :P But I surprised myself by not only staying away through the class, but also being able to keep up, at least most of the time! I think it helped that this time we were actually using the program ourselves instead of just listening to him lecture. I feel like I have a better handle on curves, although I still haven't figured out how to symmetrically mirror a curve or a shape across an axis. I'm sure we'll get to that later. We also decided on our final project, so I think I'm going to model that original dragon-like hovercraft. Need to sketch out ideas for it and find references...
Came back, and it was time for Rei's b-day party!
ghettopeach and
caedhe did an absolutely fabulous job decorating and planning everything, and practically everyone showed up in costume except me 'cause I'm lame so it was awesome! There was pirate-y stuff and craploads of candy, which I stuffed myself on, and THEN we ran around outside for one of the games. And then when inside for more games I ate more candy, and then played a few intense rounds of DDR. So it was kind of like stuffing myself full of sugar and then lighting it all on FIRE. NOT the SMARTEST PLAN EVER. It was craploads of fun all around and I got to see all kinds of cool people I haven't seen in forever, but I pretty much passed out before the in-character drinking games even started. o_o Haaappy birthday Rei (and Alison!) and I'm sorry your present hasn't come yet! :O
And this week will be pretty busy, too...might go see Advent Children in Elkins after work on Wednesday (
yamikonumber7, you absolutely must come! It'll be the closest thing to seeing Advent Children in a theater! XD) and then on Friday I'm taking off work to go with
chobit001 for a Disney/Kingdom Hearts cosplay gathering at Disneyland! XD Although apparently not many people are going as KH as originally planned, but whatever, it's still Disneyland with KH geeks. Might stay the night at the hotel, too, which I haven't done since I was little. Saving money for when I have no job? Hahaha, only a SMRT person would do that!
Operator status: I got a new computer screen! O_O It's shiny and flat so there's a lot more desk space!Of course, a new one pops up right at the month where I'm leaving...
Drawing: LG pages, need to get to work soon on the concepts for the Maya project, and various other things.
Writing: Still sporking!
